Why I Am Running for City Council

For the past four and one-half years, I have served you on the Boulder City Council. I have worked hard to represent you with integrity, intellect, commitment, balance and common sense. As I seek re-election I am once again asking for your support.

During my tenure on the Council, I have consistently focused on fiscal accountability, quality governance, and efforts to enhance the social, environmental and economic health of our community. Specifically, I championed the development of the Regional Fire Training Center and am happy to report that we broke ground on this critical facility in June of this year. With my colleague Ken Wilson, I co-led the successful campaign in 2008 (Be Revenue Smart) to extend a critical city sales tax and "de-bruce" the remaining portion of City property tax. I have been a strong supporter of affordable housing and a primary advocate of the redevelopment of Boulder Mobile Manor. I am more confident now than ever that my years of experience on the Council and in the private, non-profit and public sectors as a researcher, planning consultant, human services advocate and attorney have given me a set of skills well suited to quality service on the City Council. I am an effective communicator with a strong work ethic and can be counted on to listen to all voices and act with integrity. I will stand up for what I believe to be in the best interest of the City, even if mine is the only voice.

I am seeking re-election because there is much work to be done, such as strengthening the City's revenue base, improving the quality and efficiency of City services, "greening" the franchise agreement with Xcel, and exercising wise stewardship over our open space and mountain parks as well as our unique assets such as Pearl Street Mall and Chautauqua. I have demonstrated that I have the skills, discipline and dedication to advance these and other important City interests. I ask for your vote this fall.
